BACKACHE
A very widespread problem, it is the most frequent cause of consultation for my patients. Back pain has different possibilities of manifestation: it can be localized in a very specific area or widely diffused, it can be a precise and piercing pain or dull and not well definable.
There are back pains that appear during movement, others during rest.
Sometimes the symptoms are not limited to the spine, but affect it
the upper or lower limbs with pain and paresthesia.
The causes of all these expressions of back pain are varied and often require taking
into considerations numerous factors that investigate a person's structure, lifestyle, and psycho-physical load.
Some types of back pain are caused by trauma, overload, altered postures maintained for a long time; others from spinal problems such as arthrosis, disc disease, herniated discs, osteoporosis, scoliosis.
There are systemic pathologies (neurological, inflammatory, infectious, tumoral) which, among the various possible symptoms, also include pain in the spine.
There are painful symptoms secondary to postural problems, viscero-somatic imbalances,
to dysfunctions in other body segments.
The task of the physiotherapist and osteopath is to carry out a correct differential diagnosis to identify the type of back pain present, evaluate whether it is within their competence (otherwise the patient will be sent to the most appropriate specialist doctor) and deal with it with manual techniques and exercises .
